Style council: April interiors by Sonia Murton

Sonia Murton, interiors guru, on how to make your home bloom for less

I love the season change, though I need little excuse for purchasing beautiful pieces for my home, or anyone else’s for that matter. While some of us are captivated by shoes and bags, my passion is home accessories, and with spring in the air there’s no better time to brighten up the décor. The good thing about accessories is that you can experiment as often as you like without breaking the bank; instant interiors is my take on fast fashion.

M&S has a selection of eclectic cushions to add some zing to sofas and dreary beds; we love the pom-pom Folklore-inspired Bloom Floral cushion (£29.50, pictured above right) and, if you dare mix with contrasting prints, team the Bloom Stripe cushion (£15, pictured above right) for some real interiors eye-candy.

Elaborate floral or delicate vintage-inspired prints adorning one wall will brighten up any room and take minimal effort. B&Q have a marvellous selection, such as the Chatsworthy wallpaper in pink (£16.98, pictured above right), or opt for an easy-to-remove vinyl, such as the Butterfly & Flowers wall sticker from www.vunk.co.uk (from £14.99, pictured above right).

Zara Home is another of my firm favourites and has some super trinkets – the ethnic collection combines bold and strong colours. The 100%-cotton Rosal tablecloth and napkin (from £9.90) and the glass Assago Jug (£19.99) with some vivid flowers, will add a subtle touch of colour and bring the outside indoors.

Pied A Terre Home is a new exclusive range by House of Fraser that exudes glamour; luxe fabrics, mirrored finishes, bold colour and high-shine accessories. Check out the pretty Chinoiserie butterfly double duvet cover (£70), pillowcase (£12) and cushion (£18, all pictured above right).
